Scholarships

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Bursaries

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Awards

Awarded to students on a mix of criteria, including extracurricular involvement, academic performance, leadership skills, volunteer work, or other specified experiences.

You can apply for all available scholarships, bursaries, and awards through a single application form, which takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid...

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

  • Ron Marleau Memorial Award

    Award Value $1,000.00

    Established to honour the life Ron Marleau, this award recognizes his leadership and dedication to advocating for others. The award is presented to a full-time upper-year student, with preference to a student majoring in Gender Equality and Social Justice. The recipient must have a strong academic record and have made contributions to improve and promote employment equity, human rights, social justice, diversity, or accessibility at the University or in the community.

  • Rotary Club of Nipissing Award

    Award Value $1,150.00

    Awarded to a full-time Nipissing University student in his/her second, third or fourth year (BEd included). The recipient must have maintained a minimum overall average of 80%, as well as exemplify the Rotarian goal of "Service above Self" in the community. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Rotary Club of North Bay Award

    Award Value $650.00

    Awarded to a full time student enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work program who demonstrates financial need and is a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Preference is given to a student in third or fourth year who demonstrates dedication to the North Bay and Nipissing community through their involvement in community service.

  • Royal & SunAlliance Insurance Bursary

    Award Value $1,125.00

    Presented annually to a full-time Nipissing University student on the basis of financial need. The recipient must also be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Royal Bank Technological Studies Award

    Award Value $1,125.00

    Presented annually to a full-time second, third or fourth year student enrolled in either Computer Science, the Bachelor of Business Administration (Technology Management) program or the Bachelor of Science- Environmental Biology and Technology program with a minimum average of 75%. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Sara Whitehead Memorial Award

    Award Value $5,525.00

    Awarded annually to two full-time, female students who are currently enrolled in second, third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Business Administration program. The recipients will have earned a minimum 70% average and will have contributed significantly to the local community on a voluntary basis in one or more of the following areas: Business, Athletics, and/or Community Support. The recipients are selected by the Business Faculty and must demonstrate financial need and be residents of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Scholarship in Introductory Geography

    Award Value $525.00

    Presented to the student with the highest mark (combined) in GEOG1016 and GEOG1017 taken in the previous academic year. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

  • Schulich Scholarship

    Award Value $7,500.00

    Available to selected full-time students entering the following programs: Bachelor of Education students entering their first year of the two-year program Indigenous Teacher Education Program students entering the first year of their three-year program Master of Education students entering the second year of their thesis route program Master of Science in Kinesiology students entering the first year of their program PhD in Education (Educational Sustainability) students entering years 3 or 4 of their program Students may not simultaneously hold any of the following: Chancellor's Award, NU Guaranteed Entrance Scholarship, NU First Robotics Scholarship, President's Scholarship, Upper Year Carl Sanders Award or Schulich Scholarship. Students may only hold one Schulich Scholarship during their studies at Nipissing University. Recipients must have a minimum 80% average and at least one of the following: demonstrated financial need or demonstrated contributions to community. Bachelor of Education students entering the first year of the BEd program, complete the Schulich Scholarship application found on the Student Financial Service website. Deadline: Jan 15th. *This is a 50/50 matched fund. Endowment was given $300,000 by donor, and $300,000 by Nipissing University.

    Consecutive Education students, complete the Schulich Scholarship application found on the Student Financial Service website. Deadline: Dec 1st.

    Concurrant Education Students, complete a Nipissing University Application for Entrance Awards, available on our website in early March. Deadline: May 1.

    Award Value $1,125.00

    Presented annually to a full-time second, third or fourth year student enrolled in the Bachelor of Science- Environmental Biology and Technology program or the Bachelor of Business Administration (Technology Management) program with a minimum average of 70%. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.
