In accordance with the Nipissing University Act of 1992, the direction and operations of the University are determined by a bicameral governance: the Senate and the Board of Governors. In 2007-08, Nipissing University undertook a review and restructuring of its Senate and moved to a representational model.

One of the goals of Alumni Relations, with the support of the Nipissing University Alumni Advisory Board, is to make it easy for graduates to stay in touch with the university and fellow alumni. We regularly organize activities and events, which range from special interest activities, Alumni Awards and Homecoming. We would love to catch up with you at one of our alumni events or receptions.

Peer2Peer Indigenous Mentorship Initiatives connects upper year Indigenous Nipissing University students with Indigenous students that are newer to post-secondary education, and/or are looking for additional resources and supports.

Becoming an Indigenous student mentee is a great way to meet new people and make lasting relationships, become involved with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII), gain a sense of community, learn what the OII and the University has to offer you, and may lead to future student job opportunities!

The Summer Indigenous Institute is a two-week transition program for Indigenous students entering university. Launched in July 2019, the program is offered to students who have been accepted to Algoma University, Lakehead University, Laurentian University, and Nipissing University.
