Registration for Nipissing University’s Summer Youth Camps is now open. This year, the University is offering a wide variety of camps for all ages and interests, including several new themed camps such as Space Explorers, Animal Kingdom, Camp “STRONG”, Puppet Theatre, Story Camp, and more. The popular Lakers sports camps, led by Nipissing’s head coaches and varsity athletes, will also be offered.

Nipissing University’s Schulich School of Education has received $424,333 from the Government of Ontario and Government of Canada to support the delivery of French as a Second Language (FSL) teacher education programming.

New funding from the Province of Ontario will grow intellectual property literacy within multiple institutions and ecosystems across Northern and rural areas of Ontario, including Nipissing University in North Bay. This funding, distributed by Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON), will foster the creation of a Northern and rural innovation cluster focused on critical minerals, cleantech, and battery electric technologies. Led by Laurentian, the partnership includes Lakehead, Trent, and Nipissing Universities and will provide $294,000 for the one-year pilot project.

Nipissing University student, Sarah Pecoskie-Schweir, has been chosen as one of 10 students from across Canada to receive a 2023 3M National Student Fellowship, Canada’s top award for post-secondary educational leadership and innovation. A well-respected leader on campus, Pecoskie-Schweir is known for her passion for student success, interest in education, and contributions to the campus community.

Hands theFamilyHelpNetwork.ca, in partnership with Nipissing University, has been awarded an Ontario Youth Mental Health, Substance Use and Addictions Grant from Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC) and the Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions.

Megan Odd graduated from Nipissing University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice in 2020 and a Master of Arts in Sociology (MA Sociology) in 2022. During her time at Nipissing, Megan was actively engaged in her research and community as both an undergraduate and graduate student.  

Nipissing University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ann-Barbara Graff as Provost and Vice-President, Academic for a five-year term, beginning July 1, 2023.

Nipissing Lakers Athletics and the North Bay & District Girls Hockey Association (NBDGHA) have officially joined forces. While there has been a long-standing relationship between the two groups, the association, which has been around since 1998 and was formerly called the Ice Boltz, will now be known as the Junior Lakers.

Nipissing University will present five outstanding leaders with honorary degrees, the University’s highest distinction, during its upcoming Convocation taking place June 13 to June 15 at the R.J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre.

Growing up in Northern Ontario, Tegan McWhirter developed a passion for the outdoors. While pursuing her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Environmental Science at Queen’s University, Tegan worked for the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) division of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry as a Wildland Fire Fighter on the Type I (initial attack) crew.
