Nipissing University Welcomes Future Students at March Open House

NORTH BAY, ON - Nipissing University welcomed over 145 potential future Lakers to campus last weekend for its bi-annual Open House event. Prospective students and their supporters from around the province travelled to North Bay to tour the campus and envision what life could look like for them as a Laker.

“March Open House is an exciting milestone for many students who are making decisions about their future,” said Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President and Vice-Chancellor. “It’s wonderful to welcome future Lakers and their supporters to campus and showcase the academic excellence and supportive environment that make Nipissing University special.”

The day began at the R.J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre, where visitors checked in and connected with current student ambassadors before heading out on guided campus tours. Guests explored academic buildings, specialized labs, the library, and residence spaces, while learning about the supports available to help students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Throughout the day, Program Information Sessions gave prospective students the opportunity to meet faculty members, ask questions about areas of study, and explore pathways such as co-operative education, research opportunities, and experiential learning. The Student Support Fair brought together representatives from various departments and services, including Financial Aid, Indigenous Initiatives, Residence Life, Student Development and Services, and Athletics, along with student clubs and campus groups.

“We were thrilled to see so many students and families engaging with our faculty, staff, and current students,” said Sarah Marinelli, Associate Registrar, Recruitment. “Events like this are about helping prospective students picture themselves here, and the enthusiasm throughout the day from both visitors and the Nipissing University community was incredible.”

For students who were unable to attend Open House, campus tours are offered Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) year-round. Virtual tour options are also available for those who cannot visit in person.
