Compensation:
3rd year RSW Field Liaison - $400 per student
3rd year Field Liaison - $300 per student
4th year RSW Field Liaison - $600 per student

Nipissing University is seeking qualified Field Liaisons for the 2025 Fall and 2026 Winter semesters.

Role Description:

The Field Liaison is a BSW, RSW, or MSW, RSW, assigned by the Department of Social Work to act as the primary link between the student, Agency Supervisor, Field Education Manager, and Field Education Faculty for the purposes of monitoring and supporting the student’s learning goals and objectives.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

Practicum Support & Evaluation

  • Communicate regularly with social work students via telephone/email/video chat (i.e. Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangout, etc.) or in person to answer questions or to resolve issues related to practicum.
  • Monitor and support students and Agency Supervisors during practicums.
  • Act as point of contact and resource for both students and Agency Supervisors to problem solve practicum issues and concerns. This may include additional emails/ telephone calls/ meetings outside of regularly scheduled supervision.
  • Review practicum forms and work with students and Agency Supervisors to ensure appropriate completion 
  • Provide guidance, resources, and additional supervision and consultation for both students and Agency Supervisors as needed.
  • Ensure the CASW Code of Ethics (2024) and the Guidelines for Ethical Practice (2005) are upheld by the student.
  • Conduct a minimum of three consultations consisting of a mixture of both telephone and on-site in-person agency consultations to complete monitoring on practicum performance, progress and the obtaining of learning goals.Additional consultations are conducted on an as needed basis. 
  • Prepare and provide updated reports to the Field Education Manager.
  • If concerns are identified regarding student suitability or practicum success, notify the Field Education Manager.
  • Communicate regularly with the Field Education Manager
  • Participate and complete Canadian Association for Social Work Education training modules, as well as School of Social Work training

Student Supervision:

  • Conduct bi-weekly supervision with the student via in person/telephone/email/video chat as required, complementing the student’s day-to-day supervision within the agency.
  • Participate in the learning contract, mid-point and end-point evaluation in consultation with the Agency Supervisor. Identify the unique role of social workers in a range of practice settings (e.g. non-profit, government agencies, schools, treatment programs, hospitals).
  • Identify how professional social work practice is distinctive from other helping professionals.
  • Facilitate the development of effective practice skills as a social worker working within interdisciplinary settings, or thorough interagency collaboration. 

Supervision

Field Liaison & RSW Field Liaison Personnel are supervised by the Field Education Manager. Supervision can include the following:

  • Preparing and providing updates and reports to the Field Education Manager. This may be through meetings and/or telephone check-ins. 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working in the social services sector upon graduating from a BSW or MSW university program
  • Registered social worker and a member in good standing at OCSWSSW
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to critically analyze and evaluate practicum form submissions
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
