POSITION TITLE:                            Student Counselling Services (SCS) Student Assistant

HOURS OF WORK:                        Average 10 hours per week

RATE OF PAY:                                 $14.25/hour plus Vacation Pay

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Student Counselling Services (SCS) Program Assistant supports the department’s various programs, initiatives, and services that aid students in achieving success and wellness at Nipissing University (e.g., NUlistens, Stress Management Presentations, Outreach events). Experience with program development and program delivery is an asset. 

Applicants with a professional interest in mental health or social work professions will be given priority. 

DUTIES INCLUDE:  The SCS Program Assistant will support the team by assisting with: 

  • Assist with the developing, coordination, and facilitation of outreach programing for diverse student groups; 
  • Provide youth engagement perspective on program development and design; 
  • Assisting with advertising and promotion of events / department services; 
  • Researching and data gathering relating to best practices and industry standards;  
  • Assist with administrative tasks for the department; 
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
  • Interest in student wellness & mental health 
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills 
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork  
  • Ability to work with students across diverse educational, cultural, and social backgrounds 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms

Due to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Practice Standards requiring professional and appropriate boundaries (OCSWSSW Principle 2.2.1) students who are currently receiving services from our program are not eligible for this position.
