POSITION TITLE:                      Residence Office Assistant                  

EMPLOYMENT DATES:            January 2023 to April 30, 2023  

HOURS OF WORK:                  10 hrs/week

RATE OF PAY:                         $15.50/hour + Vacation as determined by HR policy

JOB DESCRIPTION:    

The Residence Office Assistant assists with the operation of the front desk providing customer service and residence community support to the assigned Residence complex.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The Residence Office Assistant will assist with the following:    

  • Provide general information about residence, the university, and the local community
  • Foster a positive, friendly, safe and inclusive atmosphere through the front desk
  • Assist with residence programming and service promotion (e.g., poster creation, photocopying, collecting materials, social media posts, bulletin board creation)
  • Assist with the sanitization of workspace and equipment for shifts at the front desk
  • Assist with accurate tracking of services and interactions completed at the front desk
  • Assist with general office duties (e.g., sorting mail, answer inquiries, word processing, filing, etc.)
  • Assist with financial transactions (e.g., laundry change, ticket sales, tuck shop sales, etc.)
  • Assist with equipment lending for residents (e.g., vacuum, mop/bucket, carts, etc.)
  • Assist Residence Clerk, Supervisor of Residence Services, and Residence Life Supervisor with other tasks as required
  • Participate in and assist with residence passive programming provided at the front desk
  • Report damages or maintenance issues through proper channels
  • Work as a supportive member of the Residence Life Team
  • Assist in the administration and promotion of surveys, evaluations, and feedback as directed by the Department
  • Attend or complete all training sessions or workshops as required by the supervisor(s) and the University
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a student in good standing (maintaining minimum 65% cumulative GPA)
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
  • Excellent level of organizational proficiency, taking initiative, and creativity
  • Be available for scheduled shifts during the weekends prior to and after Reading Breaks
  • Be available for scheduled shifts within office hours on evenings and weekends and some weekdays.
  • Familiarity with standard computer software, social media platforms and Microsoft Teams
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success is an asset
