HOURS OF WORK:                        Average 10 hours per week

RATE OF PAY:                                 $14.25/hour plus Vacation Pay

JOB DESCRIPTION: The REAL TALK Assistant supports SCS outreach to student athletes and the athletics department. They are responsible to support various outreach programs and initiatives that increase awareness of mental health concerns, reduce stigma, encourage help seeking, and increase awareness of campus services.

Applicants with a connection to Laker's Athletics will be given priority.

DUTIES INCLUDE: The REAL TALK Assistant will support SCS by assisting with:

  • the development, coordination, and delivery of student outreach programming (Events and campaigns); engage with point people to facilitate increased connections with the counselling team;
  • organize regular meetings between point people and counsellor lead;
  • organize and track the delivery of safeTALK & MHFA workshops for athletes and athletics staff; and
  • coordinate and manage the sharing of mental health resources with coaches and athletics staff via MS Teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
  • Interest in student wellness & mental health 
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills 
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork  
  • Ability to work with students across diverse educational, cultural, and social backgrounds 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms

Due to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Practice Standards requiring professional and appropriate boundaries (OCSWSSW Principle 2.2.1) students who are currently receiving services from our program are not eligible for this position.
