RATE OF PAY:                           $16.55/hour + Vacation as determined by HR policy

JOB DESCRIPTION:    

Program & Event Assistants (PEAs) will assist Extended Learning (EL) and Ancillary Services with a variety of program needs including but not limited to youth programs, micro-credentials, workshops, leisure learning, summer accommodations, housekeeping, and special events.

Hours of employment vary depending on the availability of the Program & Event Assistant and their area of expertise, career goals and personal interests. 

The successful candidates will report to the Manager of Extended Learning and have the opportunity to work alongside other key members of the Nipissing University community including Ancillary Services, Athletics and more. 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Program & Event Assistants will assist with the following duties:

  • Respond in a timely manner to any questions/concerns from community members
  • Assist with registration, badging and attendance tracking.
  • Greet and escort community members to various campus locations for workshops, camps etc.
  • Assist in leading a variety of activities during youth camps
  • Assist with set-up and take-down event resources (including but not limited to signage, pop-ups, media backdrops, photo booth, and pipe and drape)
  • Assist with event preparation (varying tasks, as assigned) 
  • Assist the Corporate Events department with on-campus events
  • Ensure all Nipissing University policies and procedures are followed
  • Communicate any concerns/questions on offerings directly to the Manager of Extended Learning

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work with learners of all ages
  • Flexible availability (weekdays, nights, weekends)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years experience working in a team environment
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (12 months or newer)
  • Concussion training
  • Valid First Aid certificate considered an asset
  • Experience working with children ages 5 – 18 is considered an asset is required to be involved with any of our youth program offerings
