POSITION TITLE: Biology and Chemistry Laboratory Assistant
CLOSING DATE: September 19, 2021
EMPLOYMENT DATES: September 2021 to April 2022
HOURS OF WORK: Average 10 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $14.25/hour plus Vacation Pay
JOB DESCRIPTION: Assist with laboratory preparations associated with undergraduate chemistry and biology labs. Jobs will include setting up equipment, materials and chemical reagents as well as maintaining cleanliness and order of lab spaces. Laboratory Technologist will work alongside the assistant and train the student on all duties.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
The successful candidate will assist with the following:
- Reading lab preparatory notes and laboratory procedures to assist with laboratory set-up
- Communicating with technologist on tasks requiring attention.
- Assembling equipment, tools and supplies required for labs
- Dissembling equipment and lab set-up and putting items away
- Clean up lab, equipment, supplies, and glassware.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
- Comfortable communicating with faculty, staff and students.
- Confident in asking questions if uncertain about any directions or instructions
- Being a quick learner and taking initiative in recognizing something that needs to be done and doing it before being asked, especially for tidying up spaces post-prep and post-lab.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure
- Previous lab experience is an asset
- Second year student minimum
- Chemistry experience is an asset
- Strong organization skills are an asset
