Library Technician

Full Time Support Staff Contract

Two Positions - 7 month contract and 9 month contract

Reporting to the Executive Director, Library Services, the Technician provides library service to faculty, students and staff of Nipissing University and Canadore College and the community. This service includes providing reference assistance to patrons, directing patrons to appropriate sources, guiding patrons in the use of the library's catalogue and e-resources, responding to telephone and email inquiries, assisting patrons in the use of printers and photocopiers, conducting evening and week-end library orientations and information literacy instruction. Other duties include circulating materials, collecting fines, shelf reading, shelving books, opening and closing duties, securing cash and locking doors, and other duties as library priorities change.

The successful candidate will have a Library technician diploma, or a college diploma and one full year of directly related library work experience preferably in an academic library or two years of university education and one full year of directly library work experience preferably in an academic library.
