Human Resources & Equity Advisor

Full Time Administration (14 month contract)

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources & Equity Advisor is responsible for overseeing a variety of human resources functions within the University. The position provides a high level of confidential administrative support in the development, implementation and administration of the University’s equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives. Areas of responsibility include participating in the recruitment and selection function of faculty positions and working with the Office of Graduate Studies and Research with the hiring of Postdoctoral Research Fellows and Visiting Research Scholars. As the institution’s primary contact with the Canadian Centre for Diversity & Inclusion, the incumbent ensures that equity, diversity and inclusion professional development opportunities, important dates of recognition and other events are communicated to the Nipissing community.  The incumbent will maintain a thorough understanding on the directives from the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS) on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion requirements of the Canadian Research Chairs Program and will ensure they are followed within the institution. The Human Resources & Equity Advisor will have a demonstrated knowledge of the concepts of equity, human rights, inclusion and diversity as well as working knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and other relevant legislation. The advisor will Chair the Nipissing University Accessibility Advisory Committee, to ensure the implementation and coordination, the AODA programs to ensure compliance with applicable legislative requirements.

A relevant University degree (Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce, Human Resources etc.) is required with a minimum of three to five years of related work experience in a progressively responsible position, preferably in the post secondary sector. A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is considered an asset.
