Research Assistant - Business During and after COVID-19: Northern Ontario Perspective
Employment Dates: October 9, 2020 to December 1, 2020
Closing Date: October 1, 2020
Hours of Work: 5 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $23.00/hr (includes vacation pay)
Objective:
The position is for a graduate research assistant working with the principal investigator (PI) on a research project funded under a Special Nipissing University Research Funding grant related to COVID-19. The research is related to the impact of COVID-19 on the Northern Ontario business activities of small and medium-sized enterprises. The supervising faculty member is Dr. Anahit Armenakyan, Associate Professor, School of Business.
The central research question is, How well are small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs) of Northern Ontario with the emphasis on craft breweries and small non-chain restaurants prepared to deal with drastic environmental changes?
Qualifications:
Education & experience
- Graduate (Master’s or PhD) student with expertise in literature searches & reviews
- Training and application of qualitative research methodologies and analysis of interviews
- Expertise in or knowledge of qualitative data analysis software a strong asset
Typical duties:
- Assist in conducting and transcribing interviews
- Analyze, interpret, and synthesize qualitative data
- Contribute to knowledge mobilization activities (reports, presentations, etc.)
- Perform other related duties as required
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and critical analysis
- Excellent spoken and written communications skills (English, French is a strong asset)
- Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solves technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills
