The following are sample curriculum motions:
Motion to Add a Course:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate the creation of GEND 1006 Introduction to Gender, Power and Justice.
Motion to Delete a Course:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate to approve the deletion of GEND 3027 Women and World Religions II.
Motion to Bank a Course:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate to approve that the 3-credit course PHED 1006, Introduction to Physical Education, be banked.
Motion to Change a Course Prerequisite:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate to approve that the prerequisites for PHYS 2007 General Physics IV: Optics and Introduction to Modern Physics be changed from PHYS 2006 to PHYS 1007 and MATH 1037.
Motion to Revise a Course Description:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate to approve the revision of the course description for PSYC 3626 “Psychological Disorders in Children”.
New Description:
Students examine the description, classification, and etiology of major childhood disorders affecting mental health, learning, and development. These may include but not be limited to autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, cognitive and developmental delay, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders and other disorders of an emotional and/or behavioural nature.
Old Description:
This course critically examines the description, classification, determinants and treatment of the development disorders of childhood and a detailed inquiry into the disorders of mental retardation, hyperactivity, specific learning disabilities and childhood psychosis in the light of current research knowledge. Special emphasis is given to the evaluation of treatment methods applicable in the child’s social-educational milieu.
Motion to Alter a Program Requirement:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate to approve that the 3-credit course BIOL 1006 or BIOL 1011, Introduction to Molecular and Cell Biology, be removed as a degree requirement.
Motion to Include an Anti-requisite:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend to Senate to approve that TMGT1106 – Technology in Business be listed in the Academic Calendar as an anti-requisite for TMGT1107 -Introduction to Innovation, Technology, and Sustainability.
Motion to Receive Course Expectations and Outcomes:
MOTION: That the Undergraduate Studies Committee recommend that Senate receive the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice course expectations and outcomes.
Non-Substantive Changes:
If a proposed change in curriculum is deemed non-substantive, then this information will go to Faculty Council, or a designated sub-committee, for approval and then to the Undergraduate Studies Committee and Senate for information only. A non-substantive change may be described, for example, as a minor wording change in a course title or a course description.
