What is Extended Learning?
Extended Learning supports the implementation and oversight of all non-credit courses and learning offerings that fall outside of traditional degrees. These opportunities are open to all internal and external learners and include, but are not limited to workforce development, continuing studies, community engagement, youth programs, third age/leisure learning, and micro-credentials. These offerings allow any individual the opportunity to increase confidence and maximize personal growth with accessible, affordable and achievable options that are professionally recognized.
Extended Learning is a part of Nipissing University's Teaching Hub. To learn more about the Teaching Hub please visit the website.
Non-Credit Learning is the main category for opportunities through Extended Learning. Learners can select their preferences based on their own personal interests and professional development needs. These may be graded (pass/fail; attendance, etc.); however, there are no pre-requisites or requirements to participate. Learners will receive digital badges and/or certificates of completion that are professionally recognized by Nipissing University and can be shared on social media and/or professional applications as evidence of the skills achieved.
These opportunities include community partnerships and professional engagement opportunities that are designed to be short in duration and affordable. The Extended Learning team supports learners from start to finish and are available for any questions along the way.
Registration for non-credit extended learning offerings are made directly through the office of Extended Learning.
Professional Designation & Academic Credit
Professional designation and Academic Continuing Education courses or programs are linked to academic faculties and provide learners with academic transcripts on Nipissing University parchment. These types of extended learning opportunities are graded and defined more conventionally. Minimum requirements or pre-requisites may be necessary for enrollment. Unlike Non-Credit Learning offerings, these opportunities may involve other professionals in other departments to service and support the needs of the learners.
Examples include Additional Qualification/Additional Basic Qualification courses and Post-Baccalaureate Diplomas and Certificates.
Registration for Professional Designation and Academic Credit courses are made directly through the Nipissing University Registrar's Office.
Upskill, reskill, and continue your professional and personal growth. Micro-credentials are affordable options open to any learner interested in increasing their proficiencies with no obligations, pre-requisites or minimum requirements needed. Specialized training or re-training allows learners the opportunity to remain confident and better prepared for industry demands and changes. Increase your skillsets with professionally recognized micro-credentials supported by Extended Learning at Nipissing University.
