Areas of Specialization:

Twentieth-century British; British and American modernism; postcolonial literature; women's writing; interdisciplinary criticism and theory (music and literature)

Research Interests:

I am currently engaged in research for a book-length project on modernism (a period in the British, American and European arts from 1910-1940), portraiture and performance. When it is complete, this book will outline some important collaborations and influences among modernist writers (Gertrude Stein, Edith Sitwell, Jane Bowles), painters (Pablo Picasso, Pavel Tchelitchev, Maurice Grosser) and composers (Virgil Thomson, William Walton, Benjamin Britten, Paul Bowles). The joint products of these various creative artists explore the connections among the different media of literature, music, visual art and theatre.
