NU students changing the face of men's health

The Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) and the Nipissing University Geography Club have officially launched the Movember campaign at the North Bay Campus.

Movember is a campaign where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men's health; specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. This year's theme is Stop Men Dying Too Young.

"As much as we love the moustaches and the fun that goes along with this campaign, this year's theme really gets the message across," commented Geography Club President Kiera Vere. "With an average of eight men each day taking their life through suicide in Canada this is definitely something that we as students should be talking about."

The campaign was kick-started with a Shave The Date event attended by Lakers Athletes, and students.

Frank Castiglione, owner of Sportscut hair salon (107 Shirreff Ave. & 147 Worthington St. E), shaved a number of young men who had signed up to raise money and awareness.

NUSU VP Communications Brittaney Kent remarked, "We are so happy to have Frank and Stacy from Sportscut come on campus and support the students with this campaign. North Bay's local businesses are amazing!"

Students are hoping that Nipissing faculty and staff, as well as community members, also rise to the challenge for this worthy cause.
