NU student working at UN

Neil Siviter

Nipissing University student Neil Siviter is poised for an exciting summer, rubbing shoulders with world leaders at the United Nations headquarters in New York. He’ll be working there as a Public Information Intern.

Siviter will be interning with the UN’s Department of Public Information, researching and writing for the UN Yearbook, the authoritative reference work on the activities of he UN.  The position runs from April 6 to September 30. He beat out competition from all over the world for the prestigious internship.

It’s a perfect fit for the fourth-year political science student who is interested in a career in international affairs with a focus on peace and security. His current internship will certainly add weight to Siviter’s resume, as will his previous work; last summer, he worked as the Political/Economic Intern with the United States Consulate General in Toronto.

A highly engaged student, Siviter’s current internship is the latest in a series of initiatives he has undertaken.  During his studies at Nipissing, he founded the Nipissing University Politics and Debate Association, and led Nipissing University’s delegations to Carleton University’s Model NATO conference, among various other Model UN conferences.

“I’ve always been interested in the UN, especially the idea of peace keeping and peace building,” he said.  “This internship is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn about the UN and make some important connections.  I’m hoping to pursue a masters degree in international relations and perhaps eventually be back here working at the UN to help make the world a better place.”
