Meet student leader Lauren Easton

Nipissing students consistently impress as leaders, in the classroom, on campus and in the community. Recently the university celebrated 25 student leaders at the annual Dave Marshall Leadership Awards.  Over the coming months, NU News will introduce each student leader to the wider community with a short article discussing their accomplishments and activities. Today, we are pleased profile Lauren Easton a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student enrolled in the Scholar Practitioner Program.

Easton is a critical thinker who draws inspiration for her research from both practical and academic experiences. As a research assistant, Easton contributed to a minority immigrant study and innovative nursing education research. She was invited to present on her learning experiences at the Nipissing University Board of Governors Meeting in January 2017.

Easton makes a conscious effort to network with like-minded individuals, mentors, and professionals to enhance her knowledge of nursing and health concepts. She has attended over 70 hours of extracurricular conferences and workshops since beginning in her program. After networking at the Women and Harm Reduction Conference, she took the initiative to invite speakers to campus to offer a workshop to her peers.

Easton holds strong beliefs about offering culturally sensitive, trauma-informed nursing care. During her nursing placement she advocated for the implementation of Trauma-Informed Care principles and was invited to speak to staff about the framework.

Easton is growing to be a new generation nurse who is curious, insightful, technologically competent, courageous, and knowledgeable.

The university community is proud to recognize Lauren Easton with a Dave Marshall Leadership Award in the Academic Category.
