Dr. Zou’s work with Chinese Canadian seniors recognized

Dr. Ping Zou
Dr. Ping Zou, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, was recently featured in the Registered Nurse Journal, in a feature article titled Making a Difference for Seniors.

The article discusses Dr. Zou’s service to Chinese Canadian seniors in the community.  It discusses how Zou recognized physical and mental health risks facing Chinese seniors who were experiencing isolation after moving to Canada.

Dr. Zou began volunteering at her church, helping teach English and translating while launching her Nursing career, and maintained an interest in the health of the seniors in her community.  As her career progressed, Dr. Zou became more interested in diet and hypertension in the community.  She created a dietary intervention tailored to Chinese seniors that included key culturally-specific elements relating to high-sodium foods as well as traditional Chinese medicine food therapy.

Her work helping to keep Chinese Canadian seniors in good health has established her as a leader in her community.

The full article is available in the July/August edition of Registered Nurse Journal.  You can access the Journal here (please note: RNAO membership is required).
