College Drive-Cedar Heights Watermain Construction Update

Officials from Nipissing University, Canadore College and the City of North Bay met with the contractor on Wednesday, September 23.

The Cedar Heights Watermain project on College Drive is progressing on time and is expected to be complete by early November.

Please keep in mind that the following timelines are not absolute, and delays are normal and expected in projects of this nature.

Traffic on College Drive between the North and South entrances of campus is now restricted to one-way, heading North.
  • Cars travelling North (from the Hospital up the hill to Cedar Heights Road) can either turn into campus, or continue North.
  • Cars travelling South (From Cedar Heights Road down College Drive), must turn into Campus.
  • Cars exiting campus via the North entrance must turn left, heading North toward Cedar Heights Road.

Paving on College Drive from the Hospital to the South Entrance of campus is expected to begin during the week of September 28 and should last approximately two weeks.

Once paving is completed to the South entrance, work is expected to begin on the North Entrance to campus.

Accommodations will be made for cars to access campus via the North entrance while work is underway; however, all bus access will be limited to the South entrance.

The OPP will continue to monitor traffic on Hwy 11 at Cedar Heights Road to ensure safety.

The construction work being is being undertaken by the City of North Bay and includes the replacement of a water main and new water infrastructure to better service campus and the homes and businesses on the escarpment.

When completed, the project will also feature a 4-metre wide paved and lit multi-use pathway connecting the main campus to the lower residence area and including a controlled crosswalk across College Drive. Similar to the Kate Pace Way, the new path greatly improves opportunity for cycling, walking and running on College Drive. While the construction delays are definitely a pain, there is a silver lining for students, faculty, staff and community members to enjoy.
