Burk to Curate Contemporary Drawing Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Sudbury

Alison Norlen, Sussex Pier, 2015, 180 x 246 cm
Amanda Burk, Associate Professor in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts is curating an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Sudbury that opens this Friday April 15 at 5 pm.  The exhibition titled Assemble: Five years of contemporary Canadian drawing, 2011-2016, is a look back at the work Burk has been doing with Line Gallery over the past five years. Since its inception in 2011, Line Gallery, an independent gallery dedicated to the presentation and promotion of contemporary Canadian drawing, has produced twenty-five solo exhibitions of emerging and established artists working in drawing from across Canada. Currently, Line Gallery is the only gallery in Canada with a mandate focused exclusively on drawing. Over the past five years Amanda Burk and Paul Irwin, co-owners of Line Gallery, have been actively developing a collection of Canadian drawing that reflects a broad range of contemporary drawing practices taking place nationally. This new exhibition at the Art Gallery of Sudbury presents a cross-section of drawings from Line Gallery's growing collection and features the work of some of the most exciting and significant Canadian artists working in drawing today.

Burk will be giving a guided tour of the exhibition beginning at 5 pm on Friday April 15th at the Art Gallery of Sudbury with a reception to follow.

"I am very pleased to be working with the Art Gallery of Sudbury to produce this exhibition and to be able to showcase the work of so many exceptional Canadian artists working in drawing,” said Burk.  "This is the first time we will be exhibiting our collection in a public gallery and outside of North Bay."

Assemble: Five years of contemporary Canadian drawing, 2011-2016 runs until June 19, 2016 at the Art Gallery of Sudbury.
