Peer Tutoring - becoming a Peer tutor

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS WHO WANT TO BE PEER TUTORS

In order to become a course tutor, you must have a minimum B overall average, as well as a minimum grade of B+ for the specific course(s) to be tutored.

Once you have submitted your application, an Academic Skills Co-ordinator will confirm your eligibility and invite you to an Information/Training meeting.

Subsequent to your attendance at the training session, you will be notifed: if your application has been accepted, you must fill out a Student Employment Information form at the Office of Student Development and Services, and you will be added to the Active Tutor roster to await requests for your tutoring services; if your application has not been accepted, an Academic Skills Co-ordinator will discuss the decision with you.

When a match has been made, the tutee (the student receiving tutorial services) will contact you for a preliminary meeting.  If, after this preliminary meeting, both you and the tutee decide to proceed with tutorial sessions, the tutee must pay the fee and both of you must sign the (blue) contract before the tutorial sessions begin. Sessions conducted before you have signed the contract are at your own financial risk--it would mean the student you are tutoring has not yet paid the fee and signed the contract, which would mean you may not get paid for the sessions.
