MA History Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold an Honours BA in History or in a Combined Honours program with a History major and at least a 75% average on the last ten full (20 semester) courses completed at the time of application, or equivalent qualifications to be considered for admission.

All applicants are required to provide at least two letters of academic recommendation from professors or other appropriate professionals who can speak to their level of preparation and readiness for graduate studies. At least one of the references must be from someone qualified to address the academic ability and competence of the applicant to undertake graduate studies. Reference cannot be from anyone who is personally related to the applicant.

All applicants are required to provide a sample of their writing. Applicants are also be required to write a statement about their research interests and desired area of research.
Applicants may also be asked to submit supplemental information, such as GMAT or TOEFL scores as appropriate.

  1. Application form
  2. Two (2) academic references mailed with the application form in sealed envelopes with the referee signature over the seal
  3. Undergraduate transcripts from all institutions attended, included those attended on a letter of permission or exchange program. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Nipissing University
  4. Sample of written work
  5. Statement of Interest Form
  6. Resumé
  7. Proof of English Language Proficiency for foreign applicants whose undergraduate degree was not taken in the English language

English Language Test Requirements:
TOEFL - minimum score of 550 in paper based, 213 on computer based, 80 on iBT
IELTS - minimum score of 6
MELAB - minimum score of 85

PEARSON - minimum score of 67, with minimum of 60 on listening, speaking, reading and writing
