When you complete the Native Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (NCADP) you will be qualified to work, under the professional direction of the classroom teacher and school Principal, as a classroom assistant with Aboriginal primary school children.
The NCADP will qualify you for admission to the Aboriginal Teacher Certification Program, allowing you to continue your studies to become a Teacher, making it a unique educational experience.
Qualifications:
To be eligible for this program, you must meet all the following qualifications:
- Completion of Ontario Grade 12; if you do not have your Grade 12, you may apply to write an equivalency test. To get information about writing the test, contact the Office of the Registrar.
- You must be Aboriginal.
- You must have a letter of recommendation from an Aboriginal organization. It is recommended that you have experience working with children.
- A recent criminal record check.
Once you meet all of the qualifications, you may be enrolled in the Program, which consists of two different components: Summer Courses and Practical Classroom Experience. The NCADP consists of three parts - one part per summer. Each part lasts four weeks and consists of courses that will guide you to becoming a qualified Classroom Assistant.
