To be eligible for admission consideration to the MEd program, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
a) Proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university with at least a B standing; a minimum of 10 full (20 semester) courses at the undergraduate level, are required for consideration. Those individuals with less than 10 full (20 semester) courses at the undergraduate level, not including advanced standing given for college studies, will not be considered for admission. Preference will be given to students with a four-year undergraduate degree.
b) Confidential Academic Recommendation sent directly to Nipissing University by the referee. Form can be found in application package.
c) Confidential Professional Recommendation sent directly to Nipissing University by the referee. Form can be found in application package.
Note about Recommendations: All applicants are expected to submit one Academic Recommendation and one Professional Recommendation. Applicants who cannot obtain an academic recommendation because they have been away from school for more than five years may submit two Professional Recommendations instead. Applicants who are recent graduates and do not have teaching experience may submit two Academic Recommendations. Please note that a recommendation from a family member will not be accepted.
d) A résumé detailing educational and professional experience.
e) A typed statement of approximately 500 words explaining the value of undertaking a Master of Education program in your teaching/learning environment.
f) Proof of proficiency in English may be required for applicants whose first language is not English. We require a minimum TOEFL score of 100 on the TOEFL iBT test with a minimum of 27 in writing and 27 in speaking or a minimum of 7 overall on IELTS, with no less than 6.5 in reading and listening and no less than 7 in writing and speaking, or a minimum overall score of 67 on the Pearson test with no less than 60 in each of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Admission With Advanced Standing
Master of Education candidates may receive advanced standing for a maximum of four graduate three-credit courses completed prior to the time of application to Nipissing. Advanced standing will only be considered for those graduate courses taken within six years of enrolment in the MEd program. Requests for advanced standing will be considered only at the time of admission and only for graduate courses completed with a grade of "B" or higher.
