Applicants must hold a recognized undergraduate degree, all required teachable subject courses and be able to provide a transcript indicating that the degree has been conferred by June 2010 to be considered. Please note that applicants must have a minimum of ten full courses (20 semester courses) to their undergraduate degree, not including advanced standing credit, to be eligible for consideration.
It is the policy of Nipissing University to encourage applications from qualified candidates who are Aboriginal, members of visible minorities and differently-abled persons.
Enrolment in the Faculty of Education is limited. Selection of candidates is based primarily on academic achievement. Experiential qualifications will only be taken into consideration for those close to, and above, the established cut-off average. Cut-off averages will vary from year to year depending on the quality and quantity of applications. Candidates are required to complete the online Nipissing Experience Profile Form once they have applied. The deadline date for completing and submitting the Experience Profile is December 18, 2009.
The academic average is calculated on the best 10 full (20 half or semester) university courses (not including college transfer courses). If an applicant presents more than 25 full courses, only the first 25 courses will be considered. Applicants with a graduate degree will have a maximum of 5 full graduate courses included in their average.
A limited number of spaces will be reserved for Aboriginal applicants and candidates who hold an undergraduate degree plus an Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child and Youth Worker (CYW) diploma or hold an undergraduate degree specializing in child studies. The majority of these spaces are in the Primary/Junior division. Aboriginal and ECE or CYW applicants must have completed a minimum of 10 full undergraduate courses.
To be assured of consideration in the final selection process, the candidate's application, along with the application fee and the $40 non-refundable institutional supplementary fee, must be received by the OUAC no later than December 1, 2009.
Official transcripts from Ontario universities may be ordered by completing the OUAC Transcript Request Form. Transcripts ordered directly from postsecondary institutions must be sent to the Office of the Registrar at Nipissing. Transcripts from all universities, must be received no later than December 18, 2009.
The first round of offers of admission will be made on April 1, 2010.
Foreign official transcripts not written in English must be accompanied by an officially certified translation. Photocopies of transcripts are not acceptable. Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to submit the results from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) including the Test of Written English (TWE) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
TOEFL score: 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on iBT with a minimum score of 27 on writing and 27 on speaking. The test is administered by the Educational Testing Service: www.toefl.org.
IELTS score: Overall score of 7 with scores of at least 6.5 in reading and listening, and scores of at least 7 in writing and speaking. The test is administered by the IELTS Test Centre Canada at Conestoga College. The requirement for MELAB is a minimum score of 90, with at least 4 on the Oral Intereview Component.
PEARSON score: overall score of 67 with scores of at least 60 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

- Computer Studies - at least one of the courses presented for a teaching subject must be a programming language course.
- English - courses presented for the teaching subject must be English literature courses. English remedial courses will not be considered.
- French - candidates who select French as a teaching subject must also successfully complete the French Language Proficiency Test (oral and written). - Instrumental Music - the prerequisite is three full undergraduate courses all of which must be performance courses. Candidates will be considered based on academic background and experience in the discipline. Applicants should have experience with brass, woodwind and percussion instruments
- Mathematics - Mathematics courses equivalent to a secondary school Math credit cannot be counted. At least six credits (one full course) must be upper year credits.
- Religious Education - this teaching subject prepares teachers of Religious Education in Roman Catholic schools. Roman Catholic Boards of Education require that student teachers be of the Catholic faith. Applicants may be asked to provide a pastoral reference.
- Science - the prerequisite is three full undergraduate courses in a combination of Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
- Visual Arts - the prerequisite is three full undergraduate courses all of which must be studio courses. Candidates will be considered based on academic background and experience in the discipline. For detailed information, please contact the Office of the Registrar.

- Business Studies - Accounting - As a first teaching subject, the requirement is three full undergraduate courses in Accounting and two additional full undergraduate courses from a related business area. As a second teaching subject, the requirement is two full undergraduate courses in Accounting and one additional full undergraduate course from a related business area.
- Business Studies - Information & Communication Technology (formerly Information Management) - As a first teaching subject, the requirement is three full undergraduate courses in Information & Communication Technology and two additional full undergraduate courses from a related business area. As a second teaching subject, the requirement is two full undergraduate courses in Information & Communication Technology and one additional full course from a related business area. Information & Communication Technology involves teaching the use of information and communication technology from a business studies perspective. University courses considered for this teaching subject are courses such as computer applications, database management, information systems, spreadsheet applications, networking, etc.
