1. Will I get more than one Offer of Admission if I applied to more than one program at Nipissing?
Yes. You can expect to receive an admission offer for every program to which you applied and for which you are eligible.
2. Will I automatically be considered for an alternate program if I am not admitted to the one to which I applied?
Yes. If you do not meet admission requirements or admission averages for the program(s) to which you applied, you will automatically be considered for an alternate program for which you do qualify.
3. What if I accept an Offer of Admission from another university, but now I want to accept Nipissing’s offer?
If you have already accepted an Offer of Admission and have now decided to accept Nipissing’s offer, you are welcome to do so. You will need to accept Nipissing’s Offer of Admission by May 28, 2010, to qualify for residence and scholarships.
4. What if I am taking a course by correspondence, night school or took a summer school course?
Nipissing looks at courses completed at night school, summer school or by correspondence as equal to courses completed at day school. You must ensure that mid-term and final grades for these courses are sent to the OUAC by your secondary school by May 1, 2010 to be included in the early admission decision process. Please be advised, when considering one or more of these options, that only grades completed as of June 30, 2010 will be used to calculate your average for scholarships and that you must receive a full-time Offer of Admission by May 25, 2010 to be eligible for the residence guarantee.
5. What if I repeat a course?
If you repeat a course, Nipissing will use the highest final grade reported for that course.
6. What if I fail a credit? What if my final average falls below the cutoff?
All Offers of Admission are conditional. The minimum conditions of admission are:
• Completion of the Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent
• Completion of six 4U/4M courses or equivalent, including prerequisites
• Minimum overall average of 70% for all programs except Business (72%), Concurrent Education (minimum 75%), Orientation to Teaching (75%), and Criminal Justice (75%).
For programs that require a specified average and your final average falls below but is still a minimum of 70%, you will be considered for an alternate program. If you have met every condition but your average falls between 65% and 70% you will be considered for admission to Nipissing with a full-time reduced course load of 18 credits (three full course equivalents). Some programs are not available with a reduced course load.
Should you not meet our conditions and/or are not eligible for admission to an alternate program and/or a reduced course load, your Offer of Admission will be withdrawn.
7. Is residence guaranteed?
As a secondary school applicant, you are guaranteed a SINGLE room in residence if you receive a full-time Offer of Admission by May 25, 2010. You will need to return the Guaranteed Residence application form and applicable deposit by June 1, 2010.
8. English is not my first language. Do I need to provide proof of English proficiency?
All Student Visa (Study Permit) and landed immigrant applicants are required to submit proof of proficiency in the English language. Students who have attended an Ontario secondary school, or a Nipissing University approved school, full-time for at least the past three years, are exempt. Permanent resident applicants whose first language is not English may also be required to provide proof of proficiency in English. Permanent resident applicants who have lived at least three years in Canada, or in a predominantly English-speaking country, are exempt.
