Dear Colleagues:

Academic integrity pervades the culture at Nipissing University. Our Strategic Plan (2005) identifies academic freedom and integrity as one of the five guiding principles that underpins our institution.  Nipissing University is committed to the production and dissemination of knowledge. It values curiosity, creativity, experimentation and critical appraisal. Freedom of intellectual thought and inquiry is essential to the achievement of its mission. Integrity is incorporated into our coat of arms. The motto, “integritas” is Latin for the spirit of integrity, the desirable mode of human conduct and intellectual inquiry.

Reference to academic integrity in a plethora of policy documents validates the importance that our institution places on it.  Senate Guidelines, Academic Research Guidelines, University Technological Services (UTS), the Academic Quality Review Guidelines, the annual Calendar, all Faculty Handbooks, the Graduate Studies Guidelines,   The Code of Students’ Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, the Office of Instruction and Learning and the Office of University Advancement all highlight the importance of integrity as a way of life at Nipissing University.

There is no single path to promote academic integrity on our three campuses. Strategies will vary depending upon institutional commitment, resources and characteristics.  However, all campus constituents, faculty, students and staff must embrace academic integrity. It is a core institutional value that requires commitment from everyone.  It will continue to be a shared responsibility.

This office has created this website to information for anyone (students, staff, faculty and managers and administration) who is interested in becoming more aware of other resources and policy documents that are available to ensure that academic integrity permeates teaching at Nipissing University.
