Before coming to Nipissing, Dr. Clausen taught social studies and the humanities in the public school system and CEGEP, as well as courses in Education Law, Organizational Psychology and Educational Administration at the faculty of education at the University of Ottawa. In his PhD dissertation, he went on to examine the various interpretations of the term "curriculum integration" from the Ontario Ministry of Education's perspective over time as well as the teachers' understanding of the term. Presently, Dr. Clausen teaches pre-service and graduate classes in the area of Curriculum Development and Evaluation, Organizational Leadership and the History of Education in Canada at Nipissing University.
Dr. Clausen is interested in the historical development of curriculum in Canada, and the contextual analysis of these documents. Along with partners at other Canadian universities, he is presently undertaking a comparative study of provincial social studies curricula, how they are created, implemented and received.
