Special Education/Educational Psychology and Mental Health
Welcome to the home page of Professor Darlene Brackenreed. I teach courses at the Junior/Intermediate and Primary/Junior levels in Special Education/Educational Psychology Additionally I teach an options course entitled Mental Health in School-aged Populations, which is available to students in all divisions.
I have held a variety of positions throughout my career in education: classroom teacher, resource and special education teacher, English as a Second Language and English Language Enrichment for Native Students, Special Education Consultant, Administrator of Special Education and Clinician: School Psychology.
Prior to coming to Nipissing University I conducted numerous workshops for teachers in Manitoba and British Columbia and taught at the Faculties of Education at Okanagan University, Brandon University, Inter-Universities North and now at Nipissing University for the Bachelor of Education and Extension Education Office.
Research interests include inclusive education, standards assessment with special needs students, mental health in school-aged populations and technology in education. Interests outside the realm of formal education include community support to persons with disabilities, mental health and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
