Concurrent Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education

The Faculty of Education, in conjunction with the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Faculty of Applied and Professional Schools, offers a concurrent Bachelor of Arts (Honours)/Bachelor of Education program and a Concurrent Bachelor of Science (Honours)/Bachelor of Education program.

The concurrent program is offered in the following Arts and Science and Applied and Professional Schools degree programs:  Bachelor of Arts (Honours): English Studies, Geography, History, Mathematics, Psychology, Child and Family Studies, Bachelor of Science (Honours) Mathematics, and in the following education divisions:  primary/junior division and junior/intermediate division.  Students in the Junior/Intermediate Division must choose one of English Studies, Geography, History or Mathematics as their teachable subject.   The BA/BEd program in Child and Family Studies is available only to ECE graduates and is located at the Muskoka Campus.

Students successfully completing the program will receive either a BA (Honours) or BSc (Honours) depending on program, along with a Bachelor of Education degree, which leads to certification with the Ontario College of Teachers.

Students will gain classroom experience early in the program which means students get into the classroom sooner and for a longer period of time.

When you graduate from the concurrent education program, you will have completed about 23 weeks of practice teaching – almost double what you receive in other education programs. And you can be certain that employers will value the increased practical experience.

At the end of the last year of the program, you can stay for an extra month to take an additional basic qualifications (ABQ) course, which certifies you to teach in another division (Primary/Junior or Intermediate/Senior). If you wish to complete an ABQ course at the Senior level, you will have to ensure that you complete the required undergraduate courses within your studies.
