Troubleshooting

I'm sent to a page that has nothing to do with my course.

This kind of event indicates that you have spyware on your machine - specifically a "browser hijacker". They usually get into systems secretly when people download and install free programs. Many anti-virus programs DO NOT detect spyware and specific anti-spyware software is needed to identify and remove them. If your system has fallen victim to multiple infections (very common), you may need to install and run several anti-spyware programs to completely eradicate all such 'malware'. Please check Useful Downloads for software suggestions.

My course has downloadable files but they won't open.

This probably due to a "popup blocker" installed on your system. These programs are designed to suppress those annoying ads and come-ons that many sites throw your way. However, they can also interfere with legitimate popup windows. Please try one of the following solutions:

I get an error message that a page/file can't be found.

If this happens, a page or site has been moved and we need to know about it. Please email online@nipissingu.ca or call 705-474-3450 ext. 4342.

HELP! Suddenly I can't upload a file attachment!

This can usually be remedied by clearing the Java cache.

If your system uses a Windows OS:

  • Go to the Start menu and open the Control Panel.
  • Make sure that Control Panel is displaying in Classic View.
  • Find the Java icon (it resembles a cup of coffee) and click to open its dialog box.
  • On the General tab, under the Temporary Internet Files heading, click Delete Files.
  • Confirm that all items are checked and then click OK.
  • Close the dialog box and Control Panel.
  • Close and restart your browser.

If your system uses a Mac OS:

  • Open the Finder and then open Applications.
  • Within Applications, open the Utilities folder and then open Java Preferences.
  • Open the Network category and click Delete Files.
  • Confirm that all items are checked and then click OK.
  • Close all dialog boxes.
  • Close and restart your browser.

Can you forward my assignment instead?

The university cannot take responsibility for assignments to instructors. If you are having difficulty submitting an assignment, please check our troubleshooting page. If your problem is not addressed there, please email online@nipissingu.ca or call 705-474-3450 ext. 4342.

I can't find a reply to my message in the course e-mail.

The E-mail tool in Blackboard connects directly to the Nipissing e-mail account we have on record for each instructor and student. (Please see the Check Email and Send Email shortcuts in the navigation bar within your course.) If you have never logged into your Nipissing Google Mail account, please refer to the "How do I access my email?" page for instructions.
