How to set up GMail Mobile Access using IMAP

Gmail Mobile Access

In order to set up your Google mobile access, please follow the following steps:

  1. Log into MyNipissing
  2. Select the email tab (but don't launch email)
  3. In the right hand corner of the page, select "Enabling Google mobile access
  4. Create a password in the password field at the bottom of the page.
  5. Follow the Google guide from there Gmail Setup Guides
  6. IMAP should be enabled but to ensure it is please open up your gmail and open the settings. In the settings there is a tab called forwarding and POP/IMAP. Click that and make sure IMAP service is enabled.

To add a student email account to an iPhone, through 'Settings' on your phone, you will need to add a Google Mobile Password for your @community.nipissingu.ca email account.

GMail via IMAP on the Apple iPhone

  1. Tap Settings.
  2.  Tap Mail.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Other. (Note: don't tap Gmail; if you do, you'll set up POP rather than IMAP. We are aware of this issue and are currently working to make setting up Gmail more intuitive for the iPhone.)
  5. Make sure that:

o   The IMAP tab is highlighted

o   Host Name is imap.gmail.com

o   User Name is your full Gmail address

o   For Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), Host Name is smtp.gmail.com

And you're done. You can verify your Advanced settings by tapping Settings > [your Gmail IMAP Account] > Advanced.
