for the following academic-based scholarships, which are paid either in January or at Convocation, depending on the terms of the award.

Governor General's Academic Silver Medal

This medal is awarded for academic excellence to the student graduating from a three-year or four-year bachelor degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science or Faculty of Applied and Professional Programs with the highest academic standing.

President's Gold Medals

Value:               $500

The full- or part-time students graduating from the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies who attain the highest academic average in all courses in that degree program will receive a President's Gold Medal and a cash award of $500. Students in a four-year program must have earned a minimum of 90 credits at Nipissing University and have a minimum overall average of 80%. Students in a three-year program must have earned a minimum of 60 credits at Nipissing University and have an overall average of at least 80%.  Medals are awarded for the following degree programs: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science (Honours),  Bachelor of Physical and Health Education, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Fine Arts.

A student may not receive a President's Gold Medal and the J.W. Trusler Proficiency Award at the same time.

 

Carl Sanders Scholarships

Value:      $500 & $750

Awarded to full-time students entering second, third or fourth year of an undergraduate program at Nipissing.  Students will receive a $500 scholarship if they attain a minimum average of 80%, or a $750 scholarship if they attain a minimum average of 85% on 30 credits over the previous Fall/Winter session at Nipissing. 

 

J.W. Trusler Proficiency Awards

Value:             $300

Presented to a graduating student, either part-time or full-time, in each major. The recipients are chosen by the respective faculty of each major, primarily on the basis of academic achievement.  Each student must have a minimum 80% average in the course used to calculate the average in his/her major.  The majority of credits (24 for three-year degree students and 48 for four-year degree students) must have been earned at Nipissing University. Students with a double major are only eligible to receive one J.W. Trusler Award. 

 

Business / Economics

Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario- Award of Excellence

Value:              $3000

Presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated academic excellence and achieved an "A" average in ADMN 2106, ADMN 2107, ADMN 2146 and ADMN 2147.  The award is composed of $500 cash plus an indexed credit amount to be applied towards the CGA program of professional studies.  The credit portion covers one year of study (one year's registration, three courses, and the software fee). 

William J. Hotten Award

Value:              $200

Presented to the full-time student in Administrative Studies or Business demonstrating outstanding perseverance and determination in his/her studies.  The recipient is selected by the Business Department. 

Mac's Convenience Inc./ Northmar Distributors Mature Student Scholarship

Value:       $500

                                                                                 

Presented annually to a full-time, Faculty of Arts and Science student enrolled in his/her second year with a minimum first year average of 80% on a minimum of 18 credits, who at the time of admission was admissible as a mature student.  Preference is given to students who are the child or spouse of a corporate employee or dealer (Northern district) of Mac's Convenience Inc. or Northmar Distributors.  Preference is also given to students enrolled in the following degree programs:  Bachelor of Business Administration (Technology Management), Bachelor of Business Administration, Computer Science, Bachelor of Arts (Administrative Studies or Economics).  The recipient of this scholarship may be considered for a subsequent scholarship by maintaining at least an overall 80%.

NECO Community Futures Development Corporation Entrepreneurship Award

Value:              $250

                                                                    

Presented to the Bachelor of Business Administration student best demonstrating a combination of academic and creative excellence in the Entrepreneurship course as determined by the Department. 

  

North Bay and District Chartered Accountants' Association Scholarship

Value:              $250

                                                                                 

Presented to a student who has completed the third year of Nipissing University's four year Bachelor of Business Administration Degree and has demonstrated high academic achievement and other merits. 

Criminal Justice

Canadian Federation of University Women Criminal Justice Scholarship

Value:              $500

   Awarded to a full-time female student obtaining a minimum 80% average in the first year of the Criminal Justice Program at Nipissing University who is continuing full-time studies at Nipissing in the same program. 

Nursing

Canadian Federation of University Women Nursing Scholarship

Value:              $500

Awarded to the full-time, female student in third year who has achieved a minimum 80% average in the Nursing program at Nipissing University.  The recipient demonstrates compassion, perseverance and excellent leadership skills.
