Career Transitions

Whether you are in your first, second, third or fourth year, planning for post-graduation is critical at all stages and it is never too early or to late
 
Therefore, Transition Programs provides guidance and advice to help support your personal transition into the world of work.
 
The preparation needed to leave university is a process that consolidates the learning and skills you developed as an undergraduate student.  The analytical, critical thinking, comparative assessment, and research skills you used as an undergraduate students are required to ensure a successful school-to-work transition.
 
Specifically, Transition Programs offers all undergraduate students the following:
 
Résumé Clinic
Have your Résumé and/or Cover Letter professionally reviewed and critiqued on its:
  • clarity and coherence
  • relevance
  • appearance
 
The Resume Clinic is scheduled every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in A201.  Please also be on the look-out for special clinic dates for on-campus positions and summer employment hiring times.
 
Appointments are not necessary as the clinic operates as a drop-in. Students will be seen on a first-come, first served basis. Please bring a copy of your cover letter and/or résumé.
 
Job Search Guidance
Students looking for part-time, summer or full-time employment can consult with the Transition Coordinator for guidance on the best possible approaches and sources when searching for jobs.  The Transition Coordinator will guide you towards the areas and sources for locating possible positions in your field and/or help you identify jobs that will help you develop your skills for a current career interest.
 
Interview Advice
About to walk into an interview?  The Transition Coordinator will identify for you the different interview formats you might be involved with and provide advice on the best ways to prepare and conduct yourself during an interview.  In some instances the Transition Coordinator may conduct a mock interview with you so that you are fully aware of the interview process.
 
Career Workbook
Pick up your copy of the Career Workbook which outlines the school-to-work transition process, steps you can take to prepare yourself for the move into the world of work, and how you can prepare yourself for an effective cover letter, resume and interview. Pick up your copy anytime in the Office of Student Development and Services in A201.
