Literacy Camp

Summer 2017

Ages: 4-12 (Please see weekly age groupings below)

Duration: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily

Cost: $175/week ($150 for 4 day camp)

Join us as we explore the fun and captivating ways in which we use literacy every day! Guided by Nipissing University’s teacher education students, children will explore literacy in a variety of ways outside of the classroom. Through hands-on, authentic learning, children will see how literacy can be enjoyed through math, science, physical activity, and the good ol’ outdoors! Themed, full-day weeks will be run with both large and small group activities to ensure an age-appropriate and diverse learning experience for your child.

2017 Literacy Camp Schedule:

Week 1: July 10th - July 14th (Ages 4-12)

Theme: Let’s Celebrate!
Canada turns 150 this year! Let’s celebrate what makes our country unique. Like our country, we will explore what makes YOU unique and celebrate all those who make a difference in our lives.

Week 2: July 17th - July 21st (Ages 4-12)

Theme: Let’s Go Explore at Camp Read S’more!
Come join us at camp Read S’more! Adventure awaits as we explore books, share stories, sings songs, write letters, make memories, and much more!

Week 3: July 31st - Aug. 4th (Ages 4-12)

Theme: I Wonder...
Did you ever many grains of sand are in the world? Did you know...frogs never close their eyes, even when they sleep? What do YOU wonder about? Come join us as we ask questions, investigate answers, share our discoveries and wonder about the world together!

Week 4: August 8th - 11th (Ages 4-12) *4 day camp

Theme: Once Upon a Time...
Calling all storytellers! Join us as we journey through imaginary lands and faraway places. Step into the role of your favourite characters, learn about story elements and create your very own ‘Once Upon a Time’ tale!

Week 5: Aug. 14t​h - Aug. 18th (Ages 7-12)

Theme: A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Kids, part of the Shakespeare Can Be Fun series by Lois Burdett.
Let's get creative as we have fun learning about Shakespeare! Using a digital version of A Midsummer Night's Dream for Kids! by Lois Burdett, we'll explore the power of language and share our learning through writing, drawing, role-playing and much more!
