Sarah Cantin

» Manager of Student Counselling Services

Sarah Cantin completed a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Guelph. She then furthered her education to obtain a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Windsor. Sarah is a Registered Social Worker in the province of Ontario with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Sarah has worked with a diverse group of clientele and has experience working with individuals struggling with many different mental health concerns and disabilities. Sarah enjoys working with the students at Nipissing University to help them reach their full potential!

Kayley Gravelle

» Secretary

​Kayley Gravelle has been working as a secretary at Nipissing University since January 2008. She has been with the Student Counselling Services Department since December 2014. Kayley received her certificate in the Office Administration program at Canadore College in 2006. Kayley's passion is working in areas supporting mental health and wellness. Kayley strongly believes each student should feel safe, comfortable and supported while requesting or accessing wellness services. If you require any assistance at all don’t hesitate to contact her she will do her very best to assist you.​

Andrea Havercroft

» Counsellor

Andrea Havercroft has been working as a Counsellor at Nipissing University since 2008. Prior to working at Nipissing University, she was a Crisis Worker at a hospital where she gained valuable experience supporting clients in the areas of mental health and crisis situations. Andrea also has experience working with children and families in her role as a Child Protection Worker where she developed extensive skills in assessment, family intervention, advocacy, and community liaison. , Andrea has a knowledge and skill base from several theories with a particular passion for cognitive behavioural and solution focused approaches. Andrea is passionate about prevention and enjoys developing and facilitating psycho-educational seminars and workshops on several topics that benefit students and promote their success. She completed her Social Services Worker diploma from Canadore College, as well as her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Laure​ntian University. Andrea is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.​

Terry Mady

» Counsellor

Terry Mady is a Registered Psychotherapist and has been practicing since 2002. He has had a lot of experience working with young adults in a variety of capacities including private practice. He is known to have a very non-judgmental, relational approach which makes him easy to talk with. His expertise is in helping others develop their own expertness by providing them with the resources and developing the ideas, thoughts and solutions needed to address the concerns they bring forward.

April Raftis

» Counsellor

April Raftis is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She earned a degree in Psychology and Sociology from Nipissing University, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree with a focus on Indigenous Relations from Laurentian University. Her past experiences have made her passionate about supporting individuals in the areas of mental health, addictions and child welfare. April is committed to the mental wellness of the students of Nipissing University and incorporates holism strategies into her interventions promoting balance, positive self-empowerment and connection to community. April believes that when students who are experiencing difficulties are given the tools to cope and reach their goals throughout their education it allows them to thrive in their daily lives and enhance their future successes!

Neva Isaac-Sands

» Dibaadan Counsellor​

Neva Isaac-Sands is Anishnabequa from the Ojibway and Oneida Nation, she is Turtle and Wolf clan and has worked within First Nations and Indigenous Families for over 17 years in the fields of social work, child protection and support, Indigenous healing and ending domestic violence against aboriginal women. Neva earned a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Ryerson University in the Aboriginal Field of Study and she has completed her Masters of Social work from Wilfred Laurier University in the Aboriginal Filed of Study.  Neva lives Minobiimaadziwin ‘The Good Life Ways’ of her Anishnaabe people, this means she acknowledges and understands her interconnectedness to the Universe, Mother Earth and all of Creation. Neva’s approaches with students is to listen, source the challenge, develop strategies, process with focusing and build the student with skills and tools to empower their own healing. ​
