Career Tools

Counsellors have been trained and are familiar with the administration and application of a wide range of career planning instruments for post-secondary students. Make an appointment with a Counsellor to learn more about using one or more of these career planning tools. Several of these programs require a username and password to gain access. The Counsellor can provide this to you.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
The MBTI is an instrument used by qualified administrators with people for a variety of purposes, such as improved self understanding and development, personal counselling, career counselling, relationship counselling, learning styles, problem solving and team building.
   
Bridges/Choices Planner
This online career information program helps post-secondary students develop a personalized career plan as they compare, connect and choose from a vast network of work and education options.  
 
Typefocus Careers​
Typefocus is an online career counselling tool that has been correlated with the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. It is designed to help individuals find careers that are commonly associated with or best suited with their personality type.      
 
Career Cruising
Career Cruising is an online career guidance and planning system. This tool can help you find the right career, explore education and training options, and build your own portfolio.   

Self-Directed Search (SDS)
The SDS will determine a 3-letter code to help you find the careers that best match your interests and abilities. A list of occupations with codes identical and/or similar to your own will be provided.

Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong Interest Inventory will enable you to discover your natural interests and chart a plan of action for achieving a satisfying career.

Guiding Circles 1: Understanding Yourself
Guiding Circles 2: Exploring the Possibilities
Developed by the Aboriginal Human Resource Council, Guiding Circles invites individuals to explore their life experiences as a guide for career assessment and then to explore career alternatives and make effective career decisions.  The concept of community as a sense of connection and its role in a holistic career support model are incorporated.

Make an appointment with a career counsellor or come by during a Career Express drop-in time to learn more about these career programs.
