Biidaaban Community Service-Learning In Your Curriculum

BCSL is a unique approach to learning that offers students the opportunity to learn from the community of North Bay and surrounding area.

The program is designed to:

  • help students apply theoretical knowledge through hands on learning
  • contribute to local community organizations
  • connect Nipissing University faculty and students to the larger North Bay community

Local organizations interested in working with our students contact the BCSL office and in partnership with faculty we work to connect students with meaningful and enriching community experiences.

BCSL can be offered to students in a variety of ways:

  1. Placements can be offered as mandatory assignments in areas that compliment course content
  2. Placements can be offered as an optional component of the course as a choice with other, more traditional assignments
  3. Placements hours vary depending on the needs and wishes of faculty members (Placements usually run 20-40 hours )

Faculty involvement varies depending on the needs of the students, faculty and community partner. The BCSL office works to make the integration of a community experiences for students as easy as possible and is available to handle logistical and supervisory responsibilities associated with placments. The BCSL office can also help with supplies or other monetary needs that may arise during implementation and delivery of a community placement. Please contact BCSL staff for more information.
