About Us

Our Mission

To provide experiential learning opportunities for students. Our primary focus is to enhance literacy and numeracy in youth, and specifically Aboriginal youth, located in Northern Ontario and to foster community  service by connecting Nipissing students with community organizations. The Biidaaban Community Service-Learning office is committed to offering students unique learning opportunities', building relationships with the local community and providing chances for those living in Ontario communities to access Nipissing University.

Partnerships are the key to BCSL at Nipissing University.

We build relationships by listening to what our partner is sharing, hearing the message from the partner’s perspective, and then deciding on the best way to create a partnership.  Some relationships may never develop into partnerships; nonetheless, we follow this process.

Our partners include classroom settings, non-profit organizations, Aboriginal secretariat for post secondary assistance, a First Nation community, and a college support services unit for Aboriginal students.  We also work with various other social agencies for non-literacy related CSL projects.
