North Bay Campus

Coursepacks

Why should I produce a course pack for my students?
  • A course pack provides students with the precise information they require for your course.
  • A course pack minimizes the cost to students by reducing the need for expensive textbooks.
  • A course pack helps you stay organized. Less time spent standing in line at the photocopier just before class equals less stress!
  • A course pack that incorporates lecture notes for the year allows your students to listen more attentively in your lectures and participate more fully in class discussions.
  • It reduces the amount of valuable time you must spend finding and copying appropriate readings prior to each class

How much will my course pack end up costing the students?
That depends on the kind of information that you are providing them with, as well as the quantity. Typically, the cost is broken down as follows:

Production cost
Printing is ten cents per impression, which covers scanning, copyright assessment and approvals, editing, and saving. Repeat course packs are subject to a discount. Value-added items, such as spiral or cerlox binding have additional, nominal fees attached to them.

Copyright fees
ACCESS usually charges ten cents per copied page. Some publishers and authors are not covered under our ACCESS agreement, in which case the cost may be higher.
What happens to the money generated through course pack sales?
Nipissing University is committed to keeping the cost of a university education down while providing exceptional programs and services to our students. As part of that policy, Print Plus produces course packs on a cost-recovery basis. All funds generated are used to pay for the cost of production.

I'm convinced! Who should I talk to about producing my own course pack?
There are several faculty on staff who have developed some outstanding course packs for their students. Samples of these course packs can be viewed at Print Plus. You should also contact Print Plus to discuss your plans. They can help you determine the layout and design of your course pack. The Manager will calculate costs of production, and will ensure that copyright clearances are obtained on your behalf.
