With more than 200 new transfer and mature students each year coming to Nipissing, transfer and mature students are an integral part of the new student community. Entering a new institution as a transfer or mature student is a distinctly different experience than entering as a high school student.
We here at Nipissing University have made a concerted effort to consider your needs as an upper-class student during your first-year experience. We hope that you take full advantage of the programs, opportunities, and events planned specifically with you in mind. YEAR-ROUND ORIENTATIONThe transitional program is offered year-round as it is an individual orientation program that allows you to select the date and time for your own orientation.
To participate, contact the First Year Experience office anytime after you have been admitted (if you are a transfer student then after you have received your transfer credit assessment) to set up your orientation. As this is a full-day event we will be providing you with a complimentary lunch voucher.
Transition Planning Here you will meet with the Transition Coordinator who will provide you an individual orientation to the academic culture of Nipissing and identify with you the services and resources relevant to your academic success. We will develop a personalized transition plan which will outline what you need to do and how the university will support your successful transition into unversity studies. Academic Planning At your initial academic advising appointment, an advisor will guidance to your planning for your intended major and first year course selection. An advisor will also explain any transfer credit assessment and how those credits will apply to your degree. Course Registration After your academic advising appointment you will have an opportunity to register for your classes in the Office of the Registrar. Assistance will be provided as you input or change your course selections on Webadvisor and an official confirmation on your course selection will also be provided to you. Orientation Tour An upper year student will guide you to the location of each of your classes, the faculty offices for your major, and other campus landmarks to get your comfortable with your new surroundings.
