Biidaaban Community Service-Learning (BCSL)

Welcome to the Biidaaban Community Service-Learning (BCSL) Program at Nipissing University! The sections in this area will introduce you to Community Service-Learning (CSL), answer your questions about participating in the program, and offer guidance for placement success and meaningful reflection.

Pronounced bee-daw-bun, Biidaaban is an Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) term, meaning: ‘the point at which the light touches the earth at the bre ak of dawn.’ BCSL symbolizes the beginning of a new partnership designed to enhance the lives of our students and communities.

CSL is an educational approach integrating theory taught in the classroom with real-world experience in the community. At Nipissing University, Biidaaban Community Service-Learning (BCSL) coordinates the CSL program. Students are immersed at not-for profit organizations, and other community settings in projects or activities designed to reflect classroom learning. In return, the organization receives an opportunity to guide student learning while gaining volunteer assistance.
