Dibaadan - Holistic Support for Indigenous Students

Monday, March 5th, 11:30am - 1:00pm, Small Cafeteria (Room A246)

Speakers Maurice Switzer, Dakota Heon, Cindy Hare, and Neva Isaac, will speak about the Dibaadan project on campus. Event held in collaboration with the Office of Student Development and Services. Lunch provided.

Wampum Belt Beading

Tuesday, March 6th, 10:00am - 1:00pm, Small Cafeteria (Room A246)

Indigenous Artist Brenda Lee of Maskwacis, Alberta will take us through the beading technique while sharing the history of Wampum Belts. Lunch will be provided.

Maggie and Me

Tuesday, March 6th, 1:00pm - 2:30pm, Small Cafeteria (Room A246)

Indigenous Dancer and Choreographer Christine Friday of Temagami First Nation will perform a solo entitled Maggie and Me followed by an Artist Talk.

Traditional Teaching on Smudging

Wednesday, March 7th, 11:30am - 12:30pm, Office of Indigenous Initiatives (Room F215)

Elder Carol Guppy of Nipissing First Nation and Temagami First Nation will lead a circle and teaching on smudging. Lunch provided.

Thursday, March 8th, 9:00am - 11:00am, Treaty Learning Center in the Library (Room L334)

Perry McLeod-Shabogesic of Nipissing First Nation will lead a traditional teaching. Perry is is Director of Traditional Program at Shkagamik-kwe Health Centre in Sudbury. Lunch provided.

Colonization Road Film Screening

Friday, March 9th, 1:00pm - 3:00pm, Capitol Centre (150 Main Street East, North Bay)

Documentary, Colonization Road, will be screened followed by Q&A with Filmmaker Michelle St. John. Michelle is a two-time Gemini Award winning actor, Co-Founder of Turtle Gals Performance Ensemble, and was a Producer and Host for Red Tales. Refreshments provided. A shuttle bus to the Capitol Centre will be loading at the main entrance of the university at 1230pm and will leave campus at 1245pm and make a stop at lower residence to pick up students.
