As the Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, the President is responsible for the leadership and management of the University. Reporting to the 23-member Board of Governors, the President will develop and implement a strategic 5 -10 year vision for the University. Providing executive leadership to a strong and competent team of senior University officers, the President will ensure outstanding support for teaching, learning and research while managing evolution and change without compromising the University’s commitment to quality. While positioning the University strategically in a competitive marketplace, the President will work to increase its overall financial resources from all sources, which include philanthropy, external research support, new business opportunities, government funding and community partnerships.

With a Ph.D. or equivalent credential, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to quality and an impressive record of executive leadership, creativity and teaching and scholarship sufficient to fully understanding the academic environment. Your demonstrated track record of innovation and administrative accomplishments in challenging postsecondary environments will provide you with the capability to make decisions at a global level in support of the overall interests of the University. Nipissing University is located in the City of North Bay, Ontario (population 55,000), a comfortable three hour drive from Toronto and four hours from Ottawa. North Bay is situated on beautiful Lake Nipissing and served by a regional airport. The University enjoys a unique relationship with Canadore College and provides a model for collaboration that serves as an example for institutions across Canada. In addition to the North Bay main campus, Nipissing has two regional campuses, located in Bracebridge/Muskoka and Brantford, Ontario.
 
As the chief financial officer, the Vice-President, Finance & Administration reports directly to the President, and provides leadership by overseeing a budget exceeding $70 million and a deficit free balance sheet. Strategically, the Vice-President will work on a measured growth plan that will add 2000 students to the North Bay, Muskoka and Brantford campuses over the next decade. Operationally, the Vice President will assume leadership for the investment and endowment portfolios, finance and financial aid departments, human resources, capital projects and infrastructure financing, as well as contract, legal and insurance administration. The Vice President plays a significant external relations and advancement role and assists the President with advancing the strategic goals of the University with donors, government agencies, other institutions and donors.
 
The ideal candidate will possess relevant post-secondary education credentials and a professional accounting designation, along with a proven background of experience at an executive level in the public sector. As an accomplished leader, the Vice-President will bring a wide range of competencies and personal characteristics which will enable him/her to work effectively at all levels of the organization to influence change, while championing Nipissing’s supportive and collaborative values and spirit.

 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LIBRARY SERVICES

 

Nipissing University and Canadore College invite applications for the position of Executive Director, Library Services, based at the Harris Learning Library on the institutions’ shared campus in North Bay, Ontario.

 This unique position leads a library team that supports the academic and career-training needs of both university and college students and faculty.  Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Research at Nipissing University, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall development and administration of the Libraries and their principal role in enhancing the high quality learning, research and skills development environment for which Nipissing and Canadore are known.  The Executive Director provides innovative and energetic vision, leadership and direction in the ongoing transformation of the Libraries as centres for scholarship and learning in the 21st century.  He/she is a results-based team member, with outstanding collaborative skills necessary to develop and maintain internal and external relations.
 
The Harris Learning Library, designed by renowned architects Diamond + Schmitt and opened in 2011, is the centre of library operations for the two institutions, with branch service and collections at four other locations.  Partnerships with other libraries play a significant role in the provision of library services to students not at the North Bay campus, and to individuals in our local communities.
 
The successful candidate will possess a Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, combined with a minimum of ten years progressive experience and responsibility in all major departments of an academic library. Given the dual responsibility of the Executive Director for both Nipissing University and Canadore College, this experience ideally includes both the university and community college sectors.
