JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Student Counselling Services (SCS) Program Student Assistant assists with the department’s various programs, initiatives, and services which seek to support students in achieving success and wellness at Nipissing University (e.g., NUlistens, Stress Management Presentations, Outreach events). Experience with program development and program delivery is an asset.  Applicants with a professional interest in mental health or social work professions will be given priority.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The SCS Program Student Assistant will aide the team by assisting with:

  • Assist with the developing, coordination, and facilitation of outreach programing for diverse student groups;
  • Provide youth engagement perspective on program development and design;
  • Assisting with advertising and promotion of events / department services;
  • Researching and data gathering relating to best practices and industry standards;
  • Assist with administrative tasks for the department;
  • Prior to assuming the role, the successful candidate must complete the following:
    • Online Peer Educator Training modules
    • In person, pre-service training session(s) as outlined
    • Completion and submission of all required paperwork
  • Participate in at least 2 Peer Educator In-Service training sessions per academic term; and
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to attend the Peer Educator Selection Carousel on Saturday, February 3, 2018
  • Interest in student wellness & mental health
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork
  • NU Student (2nd year and above) with strong academic standing (cumulative average of 65% or higher)
  • Ability to work with students across diverse educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms
  • An understanding of trauma informed practice is an asset
  • Must be able to attend a follow up second interview during the week of February 12th-16th, 2018
