JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Residence Life Student Assistant assists the residential living experience of students aiding in the planning, implementation and assistance of residence life events, promotions and programming.  The Residence Life Student Assistant works with a number of professional staff, on a variety of portfolios, with emphasis on orientation program planning and preparation of processes and resources for the new academic term. 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The Residence Life Assistant will aide the Residence Life team by assisting with:

  • clerical and programming preparations for 2017/2018 academic year; including updating of documents, inventory and preparation of resources
  • Residence Life Team Training preparations; including pre-service and August training events
  • Residence orientation and transition programs (including New Student Orientation and Residence Orientation Weekend)
  • Other duties as assigned

Note: The successful Residence Life Assistant will be required to be present for New Student Orientation dates (July 9 – 13 & July 22 - 27, 2018), August Residence Life Training (Aug. 11 – 25, 2018, weekends excluded), and Residence Orientation Week (Aug. 26 – Sept. 1, 2018) 

Prior to assuming the duties of the position, candidates must complete the following:

  • Online Student Employee Training modules
  • Completion and submission of all required paperwork

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to attend the Peer Educator Selection Carousel on Saturday, February 3, 2018 
  • Familiarity with standard computer software and, organizational proficiency
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.

Optional Opportunity: Shared residence accommodation may be provided as a taxable benefit in lieu of working on-call duty shifts for supervision of residence during summer months  (min. 4 on-call shifts/month to a max. 10 on-call shifts/month).
