JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Student Learning and Transitions (SLT) Orientation Student Assistants assist the department in planning, implementing, and assessing first-year student orientation programming including New Student Orientation (NSO), Lakers Orientation (LO), International Student Orientation, Accessibility Transition Program (ATP), and components of Frosh Week.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The Student Learning and Transitions (SLT) Orientation Assistants will aide the SLT team by assisting with:

        Developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive new student programs for a diverse student population with various stakeholders;

        Collaborating with various departments throughout the institution to facilitate new student programming incorporating multiple perspectives (including Residence Life, Office of Aboriginal Initiatives, Student Accessibility Services, International);

        Preparing content for multiple audiences across different formats (online, print, etc.) as required;

        Promoting the department through social media channels in alignment with the SLT Social Media Strategy;

        Researching and data gathering relating to best practices within student development and services;

        Participate in ongoing professional development including in-service opportunities provided by the department; 

        Completion of utilization and satisfaction reports; and

        Other duties as assigned.                                                                                                               

Prior to assuming the duties of the position, candidates must complete the following:

  • In person, orientation and training session(s) as outlined by the department
  • Completion and submission of all required paperwork

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

        Applicants must be able to attend the hiring carousel on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018.

        Student (2nd year and above) with strong academic standing (cumulative average of 75% or higher).

        Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.

        Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.

        Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success
