JOB DESCRIPTION:

Living Learning Community (LLC) Dons are Returning Dons that support a specific theme based community. LLC Dons are expected to act as mentors, provide community specific programming throughout each Living Learning Community. The LLC Don is responsible for programming to a specific theme and fostering student engagement in the themed community, and is responsible for aiding in the development of a strong and positive community by working closely with their complex’s Residence Life Staff and Residents’ Council. LLC Dons are expected to act as a resource, coach and mentor to new staff.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Some of the duties and responsibilities of a Living Learning Community Don include:

  • Fostering a positive, friendly and inclusive atmosphere in their section and throughout the residence community.
  • Support the development, marketing, and implementation of programs in accordance with the Residence Life Community Development Model (as set out by the Residence Life staff at training)
  • Maintain responsibility for the development and success of an assigned Living Learning Community in residence, and provide to support to other Living Learning Communities when needed
  • Assume on-call shifts according to the schedule and conduct responsibilities, which includes upholding the Residence Community Living Standards, and responding to potential emergency or crisis situations
  • Communicate regularly, through a variety of means, with students, supervisors, and other Residence Life Team members to ensure the success of the Residence Life program
  • Role model appropriate personal behaviour and academic success at all times, and adhering to the Residence Community Living Standards and the Nipissing University Student Code of Conduct
  • Prior to assuming the role, candidates must complete the following:
    • Attend Residence Life Team Spring Orientation
    • Online and in-person pre-service training
    • Completion and submission of all required paperwork prior to pre-service training in August, including a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and Standard First Aid and CPR level C training
  • P​articipate in ongoing training and workshops throughout the duration of employment
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to attend the Peer Educator Selection Carousel on Saturday, February 3, 2018
  • Must have previously been a Residence Don, Academic Don or LLC Don for at least one year
  • Student (3rd year and above) with good academic standing (cumulative average of 65% or higher).
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and initiative.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.
